Frequent urination. Causes. Treatment
Urination can be considered to frequent when the frequency is disturbing for that person. There are not limits for “normal” when it comes to the frequency of urinating. It is certainly upsetting when frequent urination it’s accompanied by an intense sensation to urinate and this causes a sensation of panic. That person will always try to be near to a toilet. This combination of symptoms is called overactive bladder syndrome.
To relieve the sensations there are drugs for the overactive bladder syndrome, but they often give side effects such as dry mouth and / or constipation (see article Overactive bladder syndrome).
When drugs are not well tolerated or, for people who do not want to use drugs, electrical stimulation can be made from the tibial leg nerve that goes in the same place where centers that relax the bladder are. Bladder relaxation centers being stimulated, the sensation of rushing to the toilet diminishes significantly.
In our clinic we apply these stimulations in 20 minute sessions with a frequency of 1-3 times per week for a course of 20 sessions.
